Miss Universe 2016 Candidates All in Cebu
All eighty-six candidates of the 65th Miss Universe arrived in Cebu last January 17 as one of their ancillary stops for the pageant’s activities.
Cebu is the only place outside Metro Manila where all the candidates were brought together.
The candidates were fervently welcomed with festive aura from the Cebuanos from their arrival at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) up to all the places they went for their activity.
Department of Tourism (DOT) 7 Director Catalino E. Chan III, Governor Hilario P. Davide III, Vice Governor Agnes A. Magpale, MCIA General Manager Steve Y. Dicdican led the welcoming of the candidates as they landed in Cebu.
Davide believed that this Miss Universe would add luster to Cebu and showcase its world-class beauty to the world.
One of the highlights of their visit was the swimwear presentation followed by a festive lunch at JPark Island Resort and Waterpark in Mactan.
All confidently beautiful ladies staged their statuesque beauty with the official swimsuit of the Miss Universe.
DOT Undersecretary Kat de Castro, in her Facebook account, was amazed that Cebu exceeded their expectations in handling Miss Universe events.
In her post, de Castro stated that candidates had fun and would love to stay longer in Cebu.
The reigning Miss Universe, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, said that Cebu plays a very significant part of her success because before she flew to compete in the pageant she had a day trip in Cebu and prayed to Sñr. Sto. Niño.
Wurtzbach, representing the Philippines, had a controversial win last year after the host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced her as the runner-up instead of being the winner.
On January 30, Wurtzbach shall pass on the crown to her successor on the finals of Miss Universe 2016 at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila. (Francis Nacua)
