Mild Quakes Jolt Davao Occidental and Surigao del Norte
Manila (PNA) — At least two mild earthquakes shook the provinces of Davao Occidental and Surigao del Norte on Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the first quake with a magnitude of 3.5 occurred at 12:49 a.m. with its epicenter traced 90 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 115 kilometers.
The second quake with a magnitude 3.3 occurred around 1:15 a.m. with epicenter traced some 12 kilometers northeast of Socorro in Surigao del Norte, which also felt Intensity 1.
Phivolcs said there was no casualty or damage reported and no aftershocks are expected from the two quakes.
The Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 20 to 25 earthquakes per day — mostly imperceptible — are common, Phivolcs said. (PNA) FFC/CLTC
