Meet LG’s Unique Smartphone — The LG AKA
To set its new mid-range phones apart, LG is introducing a new Android smartphone called LG AKA (pronounced AW-kuh) for people in search of a bit more personality on their devices.
The phones have character names: Eggy, Wooky, YoYo and Soul.
LG said this is the first phone with a built-in character; it also has a less notable first, the sliding-door cover. You have a choice of four phone characters, each with their own set of eyes and histories:
- Eggy, the yellow creature with coiffed hair, is always in love
- Wooky, the white device, speaks in slang
- Soul, the dark navy blue (almost black) phone, loves music.
- YoYo, the pink female, who can’t stop eating hamburgers and drinking Cokes
The phones feature a 5-inch 720p screen, an 8MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 16GB of on-board storage expandable via microSD card and a 2,610mAh battery.
Under the hood, the phones run Android 4.4 KitKat on a 1.2Ghz quad-core processor with 1.5GB RAM.
The LG AKA’s eyes react to you and serve as sort of notifications. They get dizzy when you shake the phone, they look down when you need to take the phone out of the case (i.e. there’s a notification) and so on. Eye color changes from red to green to indicate different emotions.
You can buy different color cases, which lets you switch between AKA personalities.
Unfortunately, these devices will only be available in Korea ($456) with no clear plans for international release.
