MCWD Secures New Water Supply for 2020

Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) has secured new water supply source for the year 2020 to provide more efficient service to the people of Metro Cebu.

For the first half of 2020, MCWD will receive over 23,000 cubic meters of water per day to actively secure the additional volume and to improve the service hours in areas where supply is no longer available.

“The water district is prioritizing in-house wells in areas where the demand for water is high since these are easy and fast to develop and are not easily affected by the dry spell as well,” said Stephen Yee, MCWD Acting General Manager.

Power outages, preventive maintenance and leaks occurred due to the 10,000 cubic meters supply interruption per day.

A total of 3,000 cubic meters are expected to be provided by the new in-house production wells that can benefit residents and consumers of Barangay Capitol Site, Barangay Sambag I in Cebu City and Cubacub in Mandaue City and San Isidro in Talisay City.

Meanwhile, by June this year, the Mactan Rock Industries Inc., a private bulk water supplier will deliver 10,000 cubic meters of water per day in the town of Compostela in northern Cebu, 2,000 cubic meters per day from its facility in Marigondon-Gabi and 3,000 cu. m. per day in Tejero, Cebu City.

By the third quarter of 2020, water supply is also expected to improve in other parts of northern Cebu since the Danao City Bulk Water supply will start flowing.

As part of its short-term solutions to the water scarcity, MCWD is coordinating with government, non-government and the private sectors for possible partnerships in developing groundwater wells. (MLC)
