MCWD Exec Asks City Council, Village Officials to Promote Tap Water

An official of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) has asked the Cebu City Council and barangay officials to promote tap water, which is better for the body than bottled water, which is as costly as gasoline.

MCWD General Manager Ernie Delco said tap water has 72 minerals needed by the human body.

He said most of the bottled “mineral” water sold in the market and in water refilling stations are purified water and contain no minerals at all.

“Calling bottled water as mineral water is a misnomer because it contains no mineral at all,” Delco said.

”On the other hand, one of the minerals in tap water is calcium, which is very much present in groundwater that can strengthen the human bones and normalize the heart beat,” Delco said.

He said among the minerals present in tap water are chromium, which helps in proper metabolism; copper, which improves blood function; fluorine for strong teeth; magnesium to strengthen muscles; and potassium to reduce fat.

Delco also said tap water is cheaper at P10.20 per cubic meter compared to the price of bottled water, which is P10,000 per cubic meter.

MCWD’s water costs P13.60 per cubic meter.

MCWD’s campaign for the consumption of tap water was reinforced by Dr. Jaime Dy-Liacco, who lectured about minerals at the Sacred Heart Center in Cebu City.

Dy-Liacco, a doctor of metabolic medicine, confirmed that tap water contains 72 minerals, which are needed by the human body.

Dy-Liacco said tap water has six specific minerals, namely, vanadium, zinc, copper, manganese, chromium and gynema sylvestre, which prevent diabetes.

“If you drink bottled water, which has none of these six specific minerals, you may become diabetic,” Dy-Liacco said. (PNA) CTB EB
