MCCI Welcomes New Trustees, Members

The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) elected new trustees and welcomed new members in its annual General Membership Meeting last June 3 at Oakridge Business Park.

The new elected members of MCCI’s Board of Trustees are Don Busa of Don Busa Printers, Mike Pato of Multi Concept Furnishing Export, Steven Yu of Akromont Marketing Corp., Clayton Tugonon of Classical Geometry Trading, Michelle Co of CTBC Bank, Alice Uy of JACE Handicrafts International, John King of Kings Quality Food Inc. Cebu.

MCCI also welcomed into its fold 16 new members. They are Ernest Logistics Corporation, Chromedia Far East Inc., Blue Cross Insurance, Asia Pacific Safety & Industry Supply Inc., Cebu People Multi-Purpose Cooperative, MCPI Corporation, Tech Solution Specialist Electronic Hub, Continental Aero Flying School Inc., C & L International Packaging Corp., Clint Kamms Corporation, MKK Food Ventures Development Corp., Ice Castle, Libra Sphere Security Services, Auto Global Inc., Coolaire Consolidated, Inc., and BPI Family Savings Bank-Ka-Negosyo Business Loans.

The Chamber now has 220 members.

MCCI President Jeruel Roa presented his accomplishment report from 2014 to present, emphasizing that the Chamber’s accomplishments were “coupled with the spirit of volunteerism that came from the membership.”

“Advocacy has been at the core of the Chamber since its inception. Advocacy is best done in concert with other sectors. Hence, the partnership with other chambers, organizations, and agencies was able to bring forth an atmosphere that is beneficial to the conduct of business and likewise, for the community,” he said.

MCCI has been involved in how businesses can help in the K to 12 and tech-voc programs of the government. It has signed joint manifestos with other chambers to request the Department of Transportation and Communication to look into the port congestion fee for forwarders imposed by the shipping lines and to appeal to the Food and Drugs Administration regarding government policies that hinder trading.

The Chamber, along with the Filipino-Chinese Business Chamber, was consulted by the Mandaue City Government regarding the city’s tax adjustments.

MCCI is also an active member of Mega Cebu 2050, the vision of the Metro Cebu Development Coordinating Board.

Last year, MCCI held its annual Mandaue Business Month in August and hosted the 23rd Visayas Area Business Conference.

It also organized various activities with partners, including SSS Pensioners Days, Branding Workshop with Jacqueline Thng, exhibits, Christmas Fellowship Night and MCCI Movie Night, Feng Shui with Marites Allen, and meeting with Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii. It also released its first issue of the email newsletter, Mandaue Business Matters.

MCCI received the recognition as the Most Outstanding Chamber in the Visayas in October 2014 from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Its program, Search for Women In Need Now Entrepreneurs and Role Models (W.I.N.N.E.Rs), is a finalist in the “Best Unconventional Project” category of the World Chambers Competition (WCC) in Torino, Italy.

WCC is a global awards program that recognizes the work of chambers of commerce and industry across the globe.

MCCI was also a finalist in the Best Small Business Project category in 2013 World Chambers Competition in Doha, Qatar for its Obra Negosyo Eskwela Countryside Enterprise Business Upliftment program in collaboration with the Cebu Provincial Government.
