MCCI Goes Dynamic
Humble with its achievements, the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), keeps on with its dynamism and participation in the events in Cebu that the organization thrusts on.
President Philip Tan, said that early this year MCCI invested their time to evaluate their organization. They went through strategic planing, and found their strong and weak areas. They have also positioned themselves according to opportunities and challenges poised at them.
In the recent general membership meeting and election of officers of MCCI last May 25 at Oakridge Pavilion, A.S.Fortuna, 20 firms expressed their initiative to be part of the circle by becoming new members of the chamber.
In the president’s report, Tan shared the fiscal year was vibrant for MCCI where several activities valued by the chamber were taken. There were the Green Productivity Training in partnership with Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) / TRWPB Region VII, Care and Passion: Building a Culture of Customer Excellence with 82 City Hall employees and 23 MCCI member companies with 55 representatives, Wellness Forum: Managing Rising Costs of Absences, and Two Social Security Services (SSS) fora.

Businesses in Mandaue and communities took advantage as MCCI held its business drive campaign and charity work during the much-talked Mandaue Business Month (MBM) 2012 in August. They were blessed to hear nuggets of entrepreneurial advices from the president of ABS-CBN, Gabby Lopez as one of the speakers in the high-powered Business Summit.
Truly the chamber shows off its commitment in their objectives especially with them running 50 years in existence in the community.
To add more in the list, MCCI is also active in the Metro Cebu Development Coordinating Board which advocates for a comprehensive and synergized planning of Metro Cebu. They also participated in organizing the Candidates Forum during the election campaign together with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., Cebu Chamber, Cebu Business Club, some members in the media and other groups. Last February, the chamber organized the ‘Gifts for the Hearth’, which is an exhibition of furniture and home accessory products of their member companies. And at the moment, they are working with the city government to improve the Mandaue Bridge Park, an area under the Marcelo Fernan Bridge where it is envisioned to become a beautiful park and an open space for the residents of Mandaue and other visitors, and a venue for events such as concerts and games later on.
And the most exciting part is, the chamber is a finalist in the 2013 World Chambers Competition through its entry the ‘Obra Negosyo Eskwela Countryside Enterprise Business Upliftment’ project. The competition is the only global awards program to recognize the most innovative projects undertaken by chambers from all over the world. 65 chambers from 42 countries applied to the 2013 edition of the competition and out of these applicants, five finalists in each category were selected
to present their projects at the congress in Doha, Qatar. Mandaue Chamber was among the five finalists under the Best Small Business Project category among 12 countries that sent their entries. Executive Director Marlene Bedia represented the chamber.
It is unstoppable for Mandaue Chamber and the initiatives they continue to embark just add up to their roster of milestones, making an impact and a difference to many lives.
