“Do not just do your best, you must win” Mayor Tommy Osmeña said in his message on the recent orientation of the Special Program Employment for Students (SPES) passers.

SPES is the program of the Cebu City Government which help students attain a job while waiting for the school year to re-open and to mold them into better individuals during the program.

Applicants are chosen based on their parents’ income, grades (top of the class) and performance during the interview.

Out of 1,200 who applied, only 453 passed and around 50 will be added to the list of passers.

The first top 250 passers will be the first batch, while the rest of the passers will automatically become the 2nd batch. Those who are Sangguniang Kabataan candidates will be included in the 2nd batch.

After training, the passers will be deployed in the different fields which will run from April 16 to May 15 for the 1st batch, while May 12 to June 8 will be for the 2nd batch.

The hired SPES passers will be receive a salary of Php477/day, sixty percent of which will come from the city government, while the remaining 40% will come from the Department of Labor & Employment (DOLE).

They will also be monitored through accomplishment reports which are required for submission every Friday. Requirements should be passed on or before April 20, 2018. (Cebu City PIO / Margie P. Bulado / CNU Communication Intern)
