Mayor to Dept Heads: Explain Salary Delay
Talisay City Mayor Johnny delos Reyes ordered his four department heads to explain to him why there was a delay in the release of salaries of job order workers.
In his memorandum order, Delos Reyes ordered human resource office head Hazel Bathan, city budget officer Edgar Mabunay, city accountant Viluzminda Villarante and city treasurer Emma Macuto to explain to him why the problem has not been resolved. The mayor’s action came after Erick Auza of Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines and Sustainability Initiatives, Inc. lambasted Delos Reyes’ administration at the City Hall following complaints of delayed release of job order workers’ salaries. There were reportedly hundreds of workers who have to line up at the steps of the city’s Cash Division and wait for hours just to get their pay.
The mayor’s son, John Eyre, who serves as city administrator, first blamed the department heads for this problem, and in his letter addressed to his father-mayor, he said: “The undersigned expected that payroll schedules will be distributed on time and employees shall receive their salaries without any delay.”
The mayor did not specifically state how the problem be solved, but asked the concerned department heads to adjust the releasing of the workers’ salaries to avoid crowds and delays during paydays.
