Mayor Rama Is Back
After serving the 60-day preventive suspension imposed by the Office of the President, Mayor Michael Lopez Rama was officially reinstated as Mayor of Cebu City today February 8, 2016 Monday.
The suspension rooted from the administrative complaint of Barangay Labangon captain Victor Buendia on the demolition of a Center Island and Street Lighting Project in the barangay.
Mayor Rama said he should have not been suspended as he was only acting on the orders of the Department of Public Works and Highways upholding public safety and preventing untoward incident to happen.
Rama officially reported back to office today right after the Turn-over Ceremony held in the Plaza Sugbo after the Thanksgiving Mass during the Cebu City Government Employee’s Family Day celebration.
The city’s duly elected chief executive thanked all the Cebu City Government employees especially the city’s lawyers led by Atty. Jerone Castillo, the village officials and the Cebuanos who defended and supported him.
During the ceremony, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella submitted to Mayor Rama his accomplishment report as the acting mayor. He welcomed Mayor Rama and hopes for no more suspension.
As he returned back to office, Mayor Rama was wallowing in warm hugs and greetings from supporters and city government employees with some who are wearing tshirts bearing “SuperMike Return” and also streamers and banners placed in strategic areas around the vicinity of Cebu City Hall.
Aside from the historical comeback of Mayor Rama today, the Cebu City Government employees were also celebrating the Chinese New Year and the Family Day which kicked off the 79th Cebu City Charter Anniversary celebration. (Cebu City Public Information Office PIO/Greggy Jiggs P. Senados)
