Mayor Osmeña to Give Fire Extinguishers to Different Villages
CEBU CITY, July 21 (PNA) — Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he intends to distribute big fire extinguishers in every sitio or sub-villages in the city to prevent big fires.
Osmeña said the fire extinguishers will be given to each of the sitio in the city, through their respective chapel organization.
“So when somebody’s room starts to burn, they don’t have to call the fire department. I believe this will be able to cut down the number of fires,” he said.
Osmeña said most of the fire alarms in the city only start small, but spreads to other houses because of the absence of immediate intervention.
“Why do we have to wait for the fire truck. By the time it arrives, it’s already 20 houses burned down so it will be better if there will be fire extinguishers,” Osmeña said.
Osmeña said the community will just have to assign someone to be in-charge of the fire extinguishers.
The city government will then create a special team who will inspect the fire extinguishers in the villages.
Osmeña said the fund for the purchase of the fire extinguishers will be taken out from the city’s calamity fund.
Osmeña said that aside from the fire extinguishers, there will be overhead standby pipes in the villages that will serve as fire hydrants. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
