Mayor Commends NBI for ‘Drug Bust’

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama commended the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 for successfully busting a drug den owned by a big-time pusher in Talamban.

“I commend the NBI 7 for a job well done. I am waiting for the recommendation on the matter from PCAC for NBI’s success,” Rama said in his daily press conference on Tuesday.

The mayor also added that the development is a good start following his inaugural speech delivered recently in which he cited his clear directive on the drive against the illegal use of drugs.

He said that he is serious in his fight against drugs wherein he will use the ‘broken window’ approach, fixing minor damages immediately so as not to worsen the problem.

Last Monday, the NBI 7 raiding team seized several packs of crystalline substance believed to be shabu worth P1.5 million and arrested eight persons from the house of an alleged drug pusher named Johnilito Mayol in barangay Talamban, Cebu City around noon.

In another development, Mayor Rama expresses his full support for Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7’s active involvement with the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC) during its regular meeting Tuesday.

The executive department is also arranging with Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN) thru the Cebu City Office on Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) to level up the city’s campaign against drugs in the form of ‘drama’ to be shown via television.

Mayor Rama also said that he is planning to get former vice-chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) lawyer Clarence Paul Oaminal to handle COSAP or other similar office, as well as former congressman Antonio Cuenco who authored the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 to fast-track his fight against illegal drugs in Cebu City.
