Mayor Asks Malacañang Aid for Tabunok Market

Talisay City Mayor Johnny delos Reyes this morning said he already forwarded to Malacañang his letter asking President Benigno Aquino III to fund the construction of P350 million worth Tabunok Public Market.

Delos Reyes said while he is waiting for Aquino’s response, he also had a talk with DILG Secretary Mar Roxas regarding the matter.

Delos Reyes was frustrated following the Talisay city council’s junking of a resolution authorizing him to negotiate a P350 million loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines.

The chief executive earlier announced that even Talisay Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante was amenable on his plan to construct a modern Tabunok public market building.

In fact Delos Reyes said that it was Villarante himself who asked him to prepare a project’s sketch plan.

“I thought they will approve the resolution for funding of the said monumental project, however I was frustrated upon learning that they junked it”, Delos Reyes said.

“The Talisay City council which is governed by majority Alayon party council members do not want to build a new public market in Tabunok, ‘just to make me unpopular to the Talisay people,” Delos Reyes added.

The controversial public market in Tabunok was demolished during the time of mayor Eduardo Gullas.

Since then, the next Talisay administration built the Lagtang public market instead, which is two kilometers from Tabunok.

Due to its distance, some of the Talisay market-goers got mad and did not even show their interest in going to Lagtang.

“That’s why i considered this market issue as a blessing in disguise because I won during the last election through my promise to rebuild the Tabunok public market,”Delos Reyes said.

Delos Reyes added that being a Liberal Party member, “I just hope that President Aquino would grant my request for the good of Talisaynon,” he added.
