MassKara to Commence on Oct. 8
Bacolod City’s MassKara Festival is slated on October 8 to 28, according to the Silver MassKara Festival Organization.
For this year, the festival events include Electric MassKara, Street and Arena Dance Competitions, and Sadya ang MassKara with Mayor Bing National Fireworks Competition.
The organizer cited that the festival highlights will conclude on October 28, Sunday in accordance with the ordinance setting the fourth Sunday of October as the permanent date of the MassKara Festival highlights.
Further, Bacolod Public Plaza, Lacson Tourism Strip, and Bacolod City Government Center grounds serve as festival venues.
MassKara Festival’s history dates back in 1980 during a period of crisis on the sugar industry and collision of inter-island vessel M/V Don Juan and M/T Tacloban City.
These tragic events paved way for Bacolod City artists, civic groups and the local government to organize MassKara as an occasion for the locals to be merry despite the tough times.
It is also a testimony of the people that Bacolod City will endure and triumph through the years.
The term “MassKara” was coined by late artist Ely Santiago from the word “mass” which means a multitude of people, and Spanish term “cara” which means face.
Details of the festival will be posted soon on http://masskarafestival.ph.
