MARINA Conducts Information Awareness Campaign
The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) conducts an information awareness about the right of every passenger of sea vessels.
The said campaign is about the right of information, right to refund and right to re-validated of every passenger in case their voyage is delayed or cancelled.
In case a trip is delayed, a passenger has the right to let his/her be re-validated and also to ask for free accommodation including meal.
Assistant secretary Kim Raisay Uy of the Office of the Executive Secretary said that she strongly supports the campaign since it helps promote convenience and safety of every passenger. It is also one of the top priorities of President Duterte, convenience for every passenger.
Meanwhile, MARINA Deputy Administration for Operations (DAO) Nannette Villamor-Dinopol said that this campaign is efficient since its main purpose is to spread information to the public.
“Now that we are on the first ‘ber’ month which signals the start of the Christmas season in the country, we replicated the campaign in Luzon here in Visayas, and next month in Mindanao,” Dinopol said.
MARINA notes that the rights of sea passengers are absolutely applicable only if the causes of cancelled, delayed, or uncompleted voyage are attributable to the shipping operator.
The first MARINA information awareness campaign was launched on April 11, 2019 in the City of Batangas. (MLC)
