Marcos Jr. Abolishes Anti-Corruption Commission
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. issued his first two executive orders (EO) on Thursday, one of which abolishes the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC).
Marcos’ EO No. 1 seeks to streamline the processes within the office of the president and abolishes commissions with “overlapping official functions”.
The EO ends the PACC’s four-year run, as the commission was created back in 2017 by former President Rodrigo Duterte after he threatened then-Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales as an answer to the Ombudsman’s inquiry into the wealth of the Duterte family.
The anti-corruption duties of the PACC will now fall into the hands of the Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs.
Moreover, the Executive Secretary will also handle operations and matters relating to personnel, positions, assets, and liabilities of the PACC.
All personnel that was affected by the PACC abolition may avail of their benefits, if applicable.
Moreover, the EO tasked the Department of Budget and Management to release the corresponding funds as needed. (GFB)
