Manufacturing Growth Slows in January 2025

The manufacturing sector saw a slowdown in January 2025, with key production and sales indicators showing mixed results, according to the latest Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI).

The seasonally adjusted Value of Production Index (VaPI) for total manufacturing declined by 1.3% in January, reversing the 3.7% increase recorded in December 2024. The food manufacturing sector, however, posted a 2.1% increase, improving from the 0.1% decline in the previous month.

Similarly, the Volume of Production Index (VoPI) grew by 1.5% in January, lower than the 4.0% increase in December. Food manufacturing performed better, rising by 6.7% after a 0.3% decrease in the previous month.

Meanwhile, the Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI) declined by 0.5% in January, following a 4.5% increase in December. Food manufacturing showed a similar 0.5% decrease, a shift from its 2.4% increase in the previous month.

The Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) also dropped by 0.6%, in contrast to the 4.0% growth seen in December. Food manufacturing, however, recorded a 0.8% increase, showing resilience compared to its 2.5% rise in December.

The report highlights variations across industry divisions, with food manufacturing showing steady gains while other sectors faced challenges. The manufacturing sector’s performance is being closely monitored as businesses adapt to shifting market conditions. (ASC)
