San Jose de Buenavista, Antique (PNA) — A urological medical mission will be conducted third week of July at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital this municipality to treat or operate on indigent patients suffering from kidney stones, inguinal hernia, scrotal masses, congenital anomalies and other urological conditions.

This medical mission is the 9th time that a specialty like this (urology) will conduct a free surgical mission in the province. A team of urologists from nine hospitals in Metro Manila will conduct the free operations.

This was facilitated by “Tabang Antique”. “Tabang” or Help Antique, founded in 2002 by incumbent and now newly-re-elected Sangguniang Panlalawigan member and chairman of the Committee on Health and Social Services Egidio Dong Elio aims to deliver quality charitable health care services to the indigent Antiquenos, some did not even see a doctor in their lifetime.

To date, a total of 22 groups of medical, surgical and dental specialists had visited Antique to serve the indigent Antiquenos. Also, a team of 280 doctors, dentists, nurses and other health personnel mostly from St. Luke’s Medical Center were able to render these humanitarian service to Antique’s poor and underprivileged. For the urological mission in July, patients are advised to see Dr. Elio on June 1 (10 a.m.) at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Office, Old capitol in San Jose, on June 15 (1 p.m.) at Bugasong Rural Health Unit; and on June 27 (10 a.m.) at Culasi Rural Health Unit.

“Tabang Antique” is considered an effective program of health care delivery to the remotest barrio with the cooperation and participation of various outreach groups.

“I came from a community where mostly my roots are wallowing in extreme poverty,” said “Dong” Elio , a urologist practicing at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City, “add to this the scarcity of adequate basic surgical personnel and equipment. These and many more deprivations make for the lack of the much-needed surgical care for my people.” (PNA) FFC/AJP/LPT/LPT/EBP
