Mandaue City’s Relocation Site for Settlers of Danger Zones Nears Completion
Mandaue City’s 6.5-hectare relocation site in Barangay Paknaan doe settlers in the city’s danger zones is now 90 percent complete, an official said.
Samuel Qui, the project engineer of the site development, said the city is now ready to work on the remaining 10 percent which includes drainage, road network and the installation of pile sheets surrounding the whole relocation area.
An estimated Php23.7 million has been allocated by the city to complete the site development of the area.
Some Php5 million is being budgeted for the installation of pile sheets, while a budget of Php18.7 million will be utilized for the construction of drainage and road networks.
Instead of riprapping, the city opted for the installation of pile sheets to ensure that water from the Butuanon River will not get inside the relocation site during the rainy days.
Around 1,200 beneficiaries coming from the city’s danger zones can be accommodated at the relocation site.
Seventy percent of the beneficiaries have now started building their homes in a 23-square meter lot each allotted for them.
Some of these beneficiaries have availed themselves of a loan from the National Socialized Housing Finance Corp. for the acquisition of a Php250,000 house and lot.
The loan is payable within 25 years with a monthly amortization of Php1,500 per month. (PNA) LGI/EB/EDS
