Mandaue City Turns Over 72 Firearms With Expired Licenses to Police
The Mandaue City government has turned over 72 city-owned firearms with expired licenses to the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) for safekeeping.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Noli Taliño had written Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing informing the latter to surrender the various guns while the city is preparing documents to renew their licenses.
MCPO personnel picked up the firearms at the Department of General Services (DGS), which include 40 .45 pistols, 10 9mm Tanfoglio pistols, 10 5.56mm rifles, among others.
Insp. Mario Retuya, MCPO supply officer, said the city still has to turn over 25 firearms.
He said the DGS had already turned over other firearms with expired licenses that were not on the list provided by the PRO 7.
“Some are afraid to bring the firearms because their licenses had expired so we’ll have someone pick these up,” he said.
Angelica Sumayang, administrative staff of DGS, said the firearms were issued by the previous administration to some barangay officials, department heads, city officials, regular employees and police.
She said the city had difficulty in renewing the firearms’ licenses because the processing takes place in Camp Crame in Metro Manila. (PNA) RMA/EB/RSM
