Mambaling Underpass 94% Completed

The underpass project in Natalio Bacalso Avenue is scheduled for its final opening next month with 94% completion as of the moment.

The contractor of the said project is WT Construction Inc.

Roy dela Cruz, Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH)-7 project engineer said that the concreting of the pavement is the only thing left to do.

The contractor already installed 4 submersible pumps to pump out water in case of rains.

The project consists of 6 phases where the 1st phase is in front of a popular fast food chain and the 2nd phase is in front of a certain shopping center.

Meanwhile the 3rd phase is located in corner F.Llamas Street and the 4th phase is the northbound lane in N.Bacalso Avenue.

The 5th and 6th phase are in the middle of the underpass project.

dela Cruz explained that concreting of pavement could last a week.

When the project is done, another week will be considered for the curing period.

After everything is finished, the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) will check the project for possible defects and flaws.

“By June, human na siya. But we will not open that immediately kay atong ipa-check sa quality assurance unit namo, QAU, checks for defects, naay minor corrections maybe before mo-open (By june, this is done. But we will not open that immediately because we have to let the QAU check it for defects),” dela Cruz said.

Before the official opening, DPWH will coordinate with the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) and city officials to discuss new possible traffic schemes in the area.

dela Cruz explained that the underpass will help loosen the traffic situation in the south district.

Meanwhile, CCTO Operations Chief Francisco Ouano said that all Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) can access both the northbound and southbound roads.

Ouano also said that he still needs to consult the City Mayor if they will let the buses pass by the underpass. (MLC)
