Malaysian PM Najib Says Debris Confirmed to be from Missing MH370 Plane
Kuala Lumpur (PNA/Kyodo) — A piece of plane wreckage, believed to be part of a wing, found on Reunion Island off the east coast of Africa, is from Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 that went missing over a year ago, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said Thursday.
“Today, 515 days since the plane disappeared, it is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that an international team of experts have conclusively confirmed that the aircraft debris found on Reunion Island is indeed from MH370,” Najib said in a press conference in the wee hours Thursday.
The debris, measuring over 2 meters long and determined by authorities to be a piece of a wing called a flaperon, was found July 29 by beach cleaners in Saint-Andre on the east coast of Reunion, a French territory. (PNA/Kyodo) LAM/RSM
