Makeup Applicator Cleaning: Another Form of Skin Care

Published

on

Did you know that regular cleaning of your makeup brushes and sponges can promote healthier and clearer skin? In my experience, ever since I had a cleaning routine every week or every time after a friend borrows my blush brush (there are days when you can’t help but lend a hand,) acne and pimples are already likely to occur. I will introduce to you a quick and easy mixture enough to give your tools deep cleaning. Things to be used can just be found right at your home, so don’t just rush out of your door just yet!

You will need:

  • ·Warm water
  • ·White vinegar
  • ·Your favorite shampoo or dishwashing liquid
  • ·A large clean jar or glass
  • ·Cold water (to rinse)
  • ·Your favorite hair conditioner

1/10 of the jar should be filled with white vinegar and another 1/10 with shampoo is to be used as well. Vinegar is an old-school cleaning agent and it’s acidity is enough to break down stubborn makeup build-up and bacteria on your applicators. It also softens the hair. Worried about it’s pungent smell? That’s the job of your favorite shampoo/dishwashing soap- it pacifies the smell and it is to let your brushes and sponges have a good lather as you go along with cleaning. Also, the smell of the vinegar fades away during the drying process so do not fret. After placing the vinegar and shampoo in the container, finish filling it up with your warm water.

For sponges

Place your face sponges in the mixture and let it submerge for 10 minutes. As you rinse with cold water, give each sponge a good squeeze to release makeup products retained inside. Repeat the process until the water runs clear after squeezing.

For brushes

Swirl your brush inside the mixture for 2 minutes like you would use a spoon in making juice out of a powdered mix. You will see product build-up being released as you go. Try to rinse with cold water and see if the water runs clear. Repeat the procedure and rinse again until the water runs clear. Using cold water as you wash the lather away also compensates for the drying effect warm water does to hair. For extra softness, you can also use your favorite conditioner on your brushes! Be sure to rinse well before drying.
