Makati Equips Public Schools with Portable Defibrillators
The local government of Makati equipped public school in the city with Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Initially, Mayor Abby Binay handed 39 units of AEDs to Maria Sofie Bernondo, senior education program specialist of the Department of Education-Makati (DepEd-Makati) during a ceremonial turn over held at the Office of the Mayor last week.
The AEDs will be distributed to all public elementary and high schools in the city. The portable device can be used to help revive a heart attack victim in addition to administering CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation).
A resiliency advocate, Mayor Abby underscored that the AED can be a life-saving first aid tool in the event that any student, teacher or other school officials and staff suffers a sudden cardiac arrest.
Recently, the city Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), in partnership with the Philippine Heart Association, conducted a training program for city employees, DRRM coordinators in public schools, and barangay personnel.
The training was aimed to enhance their knowledge on cardiac arrest and on the proper use of the AED. Also underway is the installation of two AEDs on each floor of the Makati City Hall main building and the two other buildings housing city government offices. (PIA-NCR)
