Magnitude 5.6 Quake Jolts Batanes
A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck the province of Batanes on Monday dawn, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its earthquake bulletin issued at 10:37 a.m., Phivolcs traced the temblor’s location at 65 kilometers, west of Sabtang town in Batanes and occurred at 2:20 a.m.
The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 17 kilometers.
Intensity 5 was felt in the towns of Sabtang, Uyugan, Ivana and Mahatao, all in Batanes while Intensity 4 was felt in the towns of Basco Itbayat and in Pamplona, Cagayan.
While there are no damages reported, aftershocks are expected from this earthquake. (PNA) FFC/BNB
