Magnitude-5.6 Quake Hits Tawi-Tawi Area; Aftershocks Possible-Phivolcs
A 5.6-magnitude quake hit the Tawi-Tawi area in Mindanao before dawn Tuesday, prompting state seismologists to warn of possible aftershocks.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor was recorded at 1:19 a.m.,with a tectonic origin.
In its initial bulletin, Phivolcs it said the epicenter was 16 km southwest of Simunul in Tawi-Tawi.
It added that the jolt was felt in:
Intensity IV: Simunul, Bongao and Panglima Sugala, Tawi-tawi; Siasi, Sulu
Intensity III: Languyan, Tawi-tawi; Maimbung, Sulu
While Phivolcs said no damage was likely, but aftershocks are possible.
