Mactan Highway System to be Upgraded for CCLEX
As the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is nearing its completion, Mactan’s highway system needs an upgrade to complement the new expressway.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar announced the new initiative during his project inspection at CCLEX last June 16, 2021.
The DPWH has widened parts of the Mactan Circumferential Road (MCR) in Babag 2 in Lapu-lapu City, and Pilipog in Cordova to accommodate more motorists as soon as the CCLEX opens.
Villar also mentioned that they are prioritizing the completion of the remaining section in Gabi-Pilipog Coastal Highway in Cordova.
The CCLEX completion rate is at 80% as of June 30, 2021, and by next year the expressway will be open for motorists.
Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) President and General Manager Allan G. Alfon said they will be putting up an all-electronic toll system in CCLEX to help save time and provide faster traffic flow.
The CCLEX is an 8.5-km expressway project — the longest bridge-way structure in the country. (ASC)
