The Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has started the implementation of the Centralized Security Check to ease passenger congestion at the final check-in counters of the airport’s domestic and international areas.

“The Centralized Security Check, complete with new Immigration Counters, will further boost our guests’ experience by providing a seamless movement at the final check-in counters,” said Andrew Acquaah-Harrison, chief executive advisor of GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC).

Harrison said GMCAC has invested in the creation of the Centralized Security Check, including brand new immigration counters and self-service kiosks to further improve the over-all ambience and customer experience at the airport.

Previously, there were two separate final check-in counters with a single X-ray machine each at the domestic and international boarding areas that were observed to be more congested on certain times of the day.

Harrison said GMCAC’s two new Immigration counters will be temporarily located right next to the X-ray machines at the Centralized Security Check.

These will eventually be relocated to its permanent place near the proposed innovative retail areas at the International Boarding Gates.

GMCAC is planning to add one more Immigration counter in the next few months as well as install a Call System in these counters to alert passengers that an Immigration officer is ready for processing of the next passenger, Harrison said.

GMCAC will install by next week nine Self-Service Kiosks, with five for the Domestic Check-in and 4 at the International Check-in).

A computer terminal will allow guests to pre-check in, without the need for queuing in the respective airline counters.

Simultaneously, a Bag Drop-Off Counter will be provided. (PNA) FPV/EB/EDS
