Maasin City College Indigent Students Get P32,000 Education Subsidy
Some 164 poor but deserving students of the Maasin City College (MCC) in Southern Leyte each received their initial P32,000 financial assistance from the total P40,000 under the Commission on Higher Education –Tertiary Education Subsidy (CHED-TES).
“The college students, who are mostly Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, are recipients of the said subsidy program this school year,” said Estela Roa, MCC school administrator, during the distribution of cash assistance at the city gymnasium, recently.
Together with their parents, the beneficiaries received their partial P32,000, wherein P20,000 is intended for the first semester and P12,000 for the first three months of the second semester. The remaining amount will be given by February and March 2019 at P4,000 per month, Roa said.
Mayor Nacional Mercado, who is the current MCC president, personally received the P6.756 million amount of check at the CHED Central Office on Jan. 8.
“Only Maasin City College, among the local universities and colleges in the region, was recipient of the Tertiary Education Subsidy, so far,” Mayor Mercado said adding that MCC is one of the educational institutions established by the local government of Maasin City.
Presently, the MCC is now integrated into the Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) called SLSU-Maasin City Campus through the efforts of Rep. Roger Mercado of Southern Leyte. (LDL/ESG/PIA-8 Southern Leyte)
