Luzon Grid Remains Intact Despite 4.1 Magnitude Quake that hit Baguio City Tuesday

Baguio City (PNA) — Power transmission service remains normal despite the 4.1 magnitude earthquake which occured 13km west of Baguio City at 7:14 a.m. Tuesday.

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan said that from his residence, he called Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Cordillera Region Director Andrew Alex Uy for updates.

Uy assured the mayor that everything is fine and no aftershocks are expected.

Uy added that the Luzon grid remains intact as there had been no reported cases of power interruptions and damaged transmission facilities in Baguio City, Benguet province and nearby areas where the earthquake was felt.

Only Saint Louis University (SLU) suspended its classes in all levels, considering that its buildings are high and felt the earthquake the strongest.

Maggie Longid, a professor at SLU said the quake was generally felt by most people indoors and outdoors.

Many sleeping people are awakened and ran outdoors in fright.

Strong shaking and rocking felt by people inside the buildings where hanging objects swung violently.

Longid said, “I was getting ready for work when I heard kitchen utensils clatter and clink.”

Small, light and unstable objects fell from their place or overturned, liquids spill from filled open containers.

Parked vehicles on the roadside rock noticeably and the leaves and twigs of trees shook as if it was being blown by the wind, she said.

Salvador Cesario of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and seismology (PhIVolcs) said the quake was felt in La Trinidad, Benguet with magnitude 3, Dagupan City in Pangasinan with magnitude 2 and in Palayan City in Nueva Ecija with magnitude 1. (PNA) FPV/JL/EBP
