LTO Warns P5T Fines for Late Claimants of New Plates
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said it is implementing now the Motor Vehicle Plate Standardization Program (MVPSP) and set October 16, 2014 as the deadline for cars and motorcycle owners who have already registered their units starting February up to September 30 this year, to get their new plates or they will be penalized with P5,000 fines once they fail to secure it on or before the deadline.
This was clarified by LTO7 Regional Director Arnel Tancinco during the Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO) Forum held at the office of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) at Machay Building, Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City.
According to Tancinco, a total of 14,983 new car plates and 26,000 for motorcycles are now available at their office.
He said those who will register their vehicles this month of October will automatically receive their new plate numbers.
Tancinco also pointed out that there are possibilities that this new plate design will be changed depending or orders of the next president of the Philippines.
He said like the present plate numbers, these new plates have the same color design to the old ones, as white for cars and SUVs, yellow for taxi, green for public utility jeep and buses, and red for government vehicles.
Tancinco explained that these new LTO plates arrived three weeks ago are just enough for all vehicles that were registered within this year and there will be additional plates to be issued to all car and motorcycle dealers for all new motor vehicles they give to their buyers.
The LTO regional chief said that beyond October 16, all claimants of new plates are subject to pay the P5,000 fines before securing the new plates.
“This are new designed plates which can not be copied because of the unique designed of their detachable bolts”, he said.
Tancinco said that this new plate is detectable once there are attempts to tamper it because the bolt head is automatically be detached.
Its materials are purely aluminum supplied by The Netherlands but molded here in the Philippines, Tancinco said.
He also added that together the new plates are also newly designed car stickers to be issued with the new plates.
New car stickers will be placed at the windshield readable during inspections, Tancinco said.
Tancinco also said that all those who already have registered their vehicles must claim their new plates and new stickers at the LTO office before the deadline to avoid penalty.
