LTO 7 To Issue 10-Year License on December 1
The Land Transportation Office 7 (LTO 7) will be able to issue the 10-year valid driver’s license on December 1.
LTO 7 Regional Director Victor Caindec said that they are auditing their offices to prepare for the issuance of the said license.
The 10-year valid driver’s license is only available to those drivers who have not committed any traffic violation.
“holder of a professional and nonprofessional driver’s license who has not committed any violation of Republic Act No. 4136 and other traffic laws, rules and regulations,” Republic Act 10930 or the amended land transportation and traffic code states.
The drivers who plan to apply for the 10-year valid license will undergo a Comprehensive Driver’s Education (CDE) to get a certificate aside from passing the examination for the renewal of the license.
The CDE Online Validation Exam is available for free at the LTO Portal link: portal.lto.gov.ph and LTO offices.
Applicants should pre-register at the LTO Portal first before taking the exam.
Applicants for the extended validity only need to answer correctly 13 out of 26 questions to get the CDE certificate.
However, Caindec noted that passing the CDE and the mandatory examination for renewal of the driver’s license will not guarantee a 10-year driver’s license card for the applicant.
The RA 10930 states that “The system shall likewise be utilized as the primary tool to identify, deter, and penalize repeat offenders of traffic laws and ordinances. The LTO shall establish and maintain a registry where demerit points incurred by every driver shall be recorded, stored, and accessed for convenient monitoring.”
He also mentioned that applicants with previous violations will only be given a 5-year license or undergo a mandatory driver’s reorientation course. (ASC)
