LTO 7 Says 5-year Driver’s License To Be Issued Starting Oct. 7

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will issue driver’s license and conductor’s license with a validity of five years beginning Oct. 7, an official said.

LTO 7 Acting Director Alita Pulga said this would be based on LTO Administrative Order 2016-034 issued by Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante last Sept. 13.

The order, entitled “Rules and Regulations Providing for a Five-Year Validity of Driver’s Licenses and Conductor’s Licenses,” was approved by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade.

The driver’s license and conductor’s license with five-year validity was an offshoot to the order of President Rodrigo Duterte to increase its validity period from three years to five years.

The five-year driver’s license is one of the program spelled out by President Rodrigo Duterte during his first State of the Nation Address.

The current driver’s license expires after three years.

Pulga said she hopes there will be no lore queues because of the lengthening of the validity of driver’s licenses. (PNA) RMA/EB/EDS
