LTFRB Reduces Jeep Fare In Region 2, 5 To Php 7
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved on Tuesday a Php 7-minimum jeep fare for Regions 2 (Cagayan Valley) and 5 (Bicol Region), a 50-centavo reduction from Php 7.50 current fare.
In an order, the Board said that it slashed Php 0.50 considering that it has earlier approved the reduction of fare of Php 0.50 for jeeps plying in Metro Manila, Regions 3 (Central Luzon), 4 (Calabarzon, Mimaropa) and most recently Region 7 (Central Visayas).
The minimum jeep fare in Central Visayas is Php 6.50 as opposed to other regions at Php 7.
“After careful evaluation of the recommendation of Regional Office No. II, (and No. V) the Board hereby resolves to grant a provisional fare reduction of fare Php 0.50 for the first four kilometers or from a provisional fare of Php 7.50 to Php 7.00 and the retention of the rate at Php 1.40 for every succeeding kilometer thereafter,” the Board said in separate orders for regions 2 and 5.
This also applies to persons with disability (PWDs), senior citizens and student with a 20 percent discounted rate.
LTFRB said that the minimum jeep fare is provisional and was decided upon based on a sustained drop in the price of petroleum products.
The order will take effect immediately upon its publication in a newspaper of generation circular in both Regions 2 and 5. (PNA) RMA/ANP
