LSI Travel To, from Cebu City Temporarily Suspended

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has released an advisory on June 19 temporarily suspending the movement of locally stranded individuals (LSI) going to and from Cebu City.

Almost 200 LSIs are currently in Cebu City awaiting the lifting of the travel ban.

Most of them have lost their jobs due to the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

During the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) virtual press conference held June 23, DILG Sec. Eduardo Año said they will be coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD) in tracing the LSIs to give them food assistance.

“The reason why we temporarily suspended yung movement ng LSIs from Cebu City is because hindi rin sila tatanggapin ng mga LGUs na pupuntahan nila. And they will be placed under quarantine so at least dito ay wala naman inconvenience. At least dito naka quarantine sila,” said Año.

As part of the government’s efforts for a more organized process in sending the LSIs home, Año said they will be sending them in bulk.

This way, the receiving local government units (LGUs) will have already prepared the food and accommodation.

Meanwhile, Año has also reiterated that despite Cebu City being placed under ECQ, there will no longer be a distribution of the third tranche under the social amelioration program (SAP).

However, he assured that the government will continue to provide food relief and other forms of assistance.

“Ang DSWD ay merong resources to provide that. Coordination between DSWD and LGUs will be done,” he added. (poc/PIA7)
