LPA to Bring Rains in Eastern Section of Visayas, Mindanao

(PNA) — The low pressure area (LPA) inside the country will bring rains over the Eastern Visayas and Mindanao on Wednesday, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA said that as of 4 a.m. the LPA was spotted some 750 km East of Surigao del Norte (09.5˚N, 132.3˚E).

PAGASA weather forecaster Chris Perez said the LPA still has slim chance to intensify into tropical cyclone.

He said once the LPA develops into tropical depression inside the country, it will be locally named “Dodong”, the fourth tropical cyclone to affect the country this year.

He noted the LPA is moving westward and expected to dissipate upon reaching the landmass in Eastern Visayas or in Mindanao.

Perez said the LPA will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Davao region, Caraga, and Zamboanga Peninsula.

He said the easterlies or warm winds from the east that brings good weather continues to be the dominant weather system affecting the eastern section of the country.

Perez noted the rest of the country including Metro Manila will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

The temperature in Metro Manila for Wednesday will range between 25-35 degrees Celsius.

Tuesday’s highest temperature in Metro Manila was at 35.2 degrees Celsius recorded at 4:10 p.m. at the agency’s Science Garden in Diliman, Quezon City.

However, he noted that the chances of isolated rains are high in the areas located in the eastern section of the country since it is affected by the easterlies.

He explained that since the easterlies or winds from the east are “warm,” the convective activity brought about by its intense heat triggers the formation of localized thunderstorm clouds.

He added that its “rich in moisture” quality also contribute in the formation of thunderstorm clouds.

In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the east to southeast will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and coming from the east to northeast over the rest of the country.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. (PNA) LAM/CLTC
