LPA East Northeast of Surigao del Sur to Bring Rain to Most of PH
A low pressure area (LPA) which first entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday, December 8, was last seen 415 kilometers east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, and will bring about downpour to most of the country on Friday, December 9.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the LPA may develop into a tropical depression within one to two days, and will be given the local name “Rosal.”
Cebu will be affected by the shear line and trough of the LPA, along with other regions such as Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Visayas, Caraga and Davao Regions.
Moreover, PAGASA said that for areas affected by the shear line and trough, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said that as the LPA moves offshore, it may be closest to the Caraga and Eastern Visayas regions on Friday, and will continue moving east northeast as it heads for Cagayan Valley on Monday, December 12.
Other areas that may be closest to the LPA are Northern Samar and Bicol provinces on Saturday, December 10; and the Provinces of Quezon and Aurora on Sunday, December 11.
Meanwhile, PAGASA expects one or two tropical cyclones to be detected within the PAR in December. (GFB)
