Lock Down Lands at University of Toronto
TORONTO – After police received reports of a suspicious man dressed in black with a backpack and mask, they decided a lock down in the University for about 4 hours.
According to Toronto Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook, Emergency Task Force said that the scene near Ontario’s provincial legislature is already clear.
Tape around the locked down buildings was removed, and the buildings were then reopened. Some of the road closures in the area remain in effect.
Police said that the person being reported was not spotted, and nobody was injured in the course of the investigation.
Several reports about a suspicious person in the neighborhood and one unconfirmed report about the person carrying a firearm, according to Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders.
Saunders said that he saw pictures of a man wearing a black outfit and a surgical mask.
“It’s clear to say that we live in a different time right now,” Saunders said when asked if the public should be proactive in reporting suspicious activity following the nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, that was the worst mass shooting in US history.
University of Toronto said several buildings were closed during the lock down.
According to Dan Clifford, who is a mover working in the spot, that he saw a man walking through the campus near the music building with a full scarf over his face. “He was talking to a tree or something,” he said.
