LnB-Cebu to Replicate ‘Boracay Rehab Model’ in the Province
Almost 1,000 barangay officials in Cebu recently gathered for their three-day annual Cebu Provincial Liga Congress last March 20 to 22.
With the theme, “Environmental Rehabilitation And Preservation: A Step Towards A Resilient, Livable and Sustainable Barangay,” the gathering held in Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan aims to replicate the Boracay rehabilitation model imposed on the island by the combined efforts of Department of Environment Natural Resources (DENR), Aklan and Malay Local Government Units, non-government organizations and the three island barangays that resulted in a much better Boracay to date.
“We are here to learn from their experience, to study local management, tourism, and development,” said Celestino
“Tining” Martinez III, Liga ng Barangay-Cebu Province Chapter president, in his message that officially marked the opening of the congress.
“Hoping we can replicate their good practices. Hope we can implement programs without facing the fear of closure in some of our major tourist destination in Cebu,” Martinez added.
Boracay was closed for six months for rehabilitation from April 26 to Oct. 26, 2019, thru Presidential Proclamation 457. (Cebu Provincial Gov’t)
