Liquor Ban to be Lifted in Cebu City

Cebu City Mayor Labella said on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, that he will create an Executive Order (EO) on May 7, lifting the liquor ban in Cebu City.

Labella said that the lifting of the liquor ban is recommended by the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and upon the request of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).

Labella plans to release an EO on May 7, formally lifting the city’s liquor ban. The EO will create guidelines to regulate the sale of alcoholic beverages in establishments that serve them.

The city will also assign marshals to monitor establishments to ensure that the minimum health standards are followed.

Establishments that are caught violating health protocols will face sanctions including the cancellation of their business permit.

It was in February this year that the liquor ban was implemented after a spike of COVID-19 cases hit the city. This to prevent non-essential gatherings in public places within the city.

As of May 3, 2021, there are only 819 active cases of the COVID-19 in the city. (ASC/with contributions from GFB)
