The Cebu Provincial Government is privileged to have partners with various organizations who help improve and deliver services to meet constituent needs, especially the underserved communities.

Lions Club Int’l (LCI) Lakandula and Silangan Chapter, in conjunction with the office of Provincial Board Member Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba, conducted free eye screening, distribution of pair rubber footwear and feeding program to grade school students of Upland Elementary School in Carcar City last October 24.

The activity was conducted for “Sight for Kids”, a program of LCI in line with the recent celebration of 2015 World Sight Day.

Cebu Doctors’ University Optometry Department led by Dr. Hazel Pimentel conducted the eye screening to identify the students with poor eyesight.

More than 250 students were screened. The identified beneficiaries would be given free eyeglasses on a later date.

Project coordinator Mariles Del Solo, cites the importance of clear vision in attaining excellence in education.

“Students may not be able to meet school requirements because of poor vision. Children are important because they are the future leaders,” Solo said.

Similarly, Alcoseba is appreciative of the project knowing that the children’s eyesight would be preserved, saved and properly restored through corrective measures courtesy of the project. (by Heart Rizarri)
