LinkedIn Reveals Most In-Demand Skills in PH for 2023, Highlights L&D’s Role in Boosting Business Resilience

LinkedIn has identified the most in-demand skills in the Philippines for 2023, based on paid job postings and standout skills of professionals who received a recruiter’s InMail or were hired in the past six months. The results show that customer service orientation is the top skill that companies value in the country.

Other skills to handle diverse people and situations are highly sought-after as well. Hard skills such as research and marketing are also important for professionals to stand out in the fast-evolving business environment.

The growing culture of learning in the Philippines is also reflected in the evolving role of Learning and Development (L&D) departments within companies. In response to the constant change brought about by technology disruption and a volatile job market, companies are investing in L&D to stay agile and ensure their workforce is ready to optimize opportunities.

L&D’s role in helping businesses thrive amid macroeconomic uncertainty is evolving to be more critical and multi-faceted. Companies recognize that skill-building has a positive impact on employee retention. An overwhelming majority (94%) of organizations in South-East Asia (SEA) are concerned about employee retention, and 6 in 10 are providing learning opportunities to improve employee retention.

L&D is also critical in upskilling and reskilling employees to capture growing areas of the economy and creating a culture of talent development to boost employee retention. L&D leaders in the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore expect to have more spending power in 2023, with 53% expecting an increase.

The top L&D priorities for 2023 include mentorship, large-scale upskilling, employee well-being, and digital fluency or transformation. There is also an opportunity for quicker acceleration in L&D, with 29% of leaders proposing large-scale upskilling and reskilling initiatives, compared to 16% in 2022.
