Lights Ceremony Ushers Capitol’s Christmas Celebration
One of the better ways to embrace the spirit of Christmas is seeing the soothing scene of lights illuminating around.
On Monday evening, the Cebu Provincial Government welcomed the yuletide season with the lighting ceremony led by Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and his wife Jobel, together with Provincial Board (PB) members and department heads.
Once again, multi-colored lights covered the entire Capitol grounds with a nativity scene or Belen perched on its balcony as the center of attraction.
This year’s “Pasko sa Kapitolyo” carries the theme, “Halad sa Pasko, Tinuoray nga Serbisyo.”
“We believe the ceremony finds meaning in all of us who are serving our fellow Cebuanos. As provincial officials and employees, we wish that our passion and commitment to serve the public will ever glow the whole year through like the lights that are about to unfold before us,” said Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale in a message read by her son and PB Member Miguel Antonio Magpale.
“The light, which symbolizes triumph over evil and darkness that clears the path of righteousness, aptly signifies the present administration’s advocacy for good governance,” she added.
While the Capitol deserves unified adornment as the seat of government, a symbol of power and authority as well as genuine public service, Magpale said that lighting up the Capitol conveys a message of hope, peace, love and goodwill.
“Ang tinuoray nga serbisyo maoy labing nindot nga halad nato ngadto sa mga Sugboanon niining panahon sa Pasko,” she said.
The Christmas lighting ceremony was witnessed by Capitol employees, who were regaled by dance and song performances of the University of Visayas Ensemble, Quartet Sensation and FOI Lighting Dancers.
Earlier that day, Davide, together with Provincial Agriculture Roldan Saragena and other department heads, led the launching of the Agri-Fishery Trade Fair, which officially kicked off the week-long celebration of the Pasko sa Kapitolyo 2018.
The trade fair showcases the best of agriculture and marine products as well as delicacies of the local government units (LGUs). At least 20 LGUs and 42 private groups, including those from Bohol Province, participated in the trade fair.
The trade fair runs until Friday, Dec. 14. (Cebu Provincial Gov’t)
