LGUs Asked to Pass Ordinances on Sewage Systems
(PNA) — The Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) has passed a resolution asking the cities and towns in Metro Cebu to enact ordinances on the establishment of a Comprehensive Septage Management System in their respective jurisdictions.
Proper septage management is vital in preserving the integrity of water resources, ensuring water quality and promoting public health within the Metro Cebu area, the resolution said.
The Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) is also mandated to ensure that proper septage management is implemented within its franchise area.
MCWD covers the whole Metro Cebu which includes the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Danao, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Naga and Carcar.
It also covers the towns of Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela, Cordova, Minglanilla and San Fernando.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 has issued a report on the status of the local government units’ participation in the National Septage and Sewerage Management Program (NSSMP).
The report showed that of the seven cities and six municipalities in Metro Cebu, only the city of Cebu and the municipality of Cordova have enacted ordinances on the establishment of the comprehensive septage management system.
Cebu City and Cordova used the template prepared by the MCWD, the report said. (PNA) CTB/EB
