Tacloban City, (PNA) -– The Leyte provincial board will hold a write shop on positive discipline and prohibiting corporal punishment next week for local authorities in the province.

Vice-Governor Carlo Loreto said the board will gather local council members, law enforcers and social workers on March 23 to 24 for a two-day write shop.

The write shop, which will be held at the Leyte provincial capitol, aims to help legislators create an ordinance that will help constitute what a positive discipline is all about, including the rights of children, Loreto said.

Discussion on the write shop includes overview on the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child, positive discipline and corporal punishments, local ordinance on child protection, and legal gaps on child protection.

Participants of the write shop will also discuss draft ordinance of positive discipline and anti-corporal punishment.

“After we are done with the policy and legal infrastructure we may go on with the telecommunication infrastructure if we can, to support the implementation of the local law,” Loreto added.

The activity is in partnership with the Leyte provincial government, Save the Children, Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population Development, League of Local Legislators for Population, Health, Environment and Development and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
