Leyte Produces Its First Ginger Candy
The Municipality of Javier in the province of Leyte just produced its first ginger candy. This is the very first in the province and it will be distributed nationwide.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) funded, tested and formulated the said candy. Freshly extracted ginger juice is used to produce the new product.
Entrepreneurship is the main goal of DOST for the candy production. It is also seen to promote local candy to be as an excellent alternative for various imported ginger candies.
Meanwhile for commerce, DOST and the local government unit of Javier distributed these candies to 700 Andoks branches nationwide.
Now branded as “Javier Salabat”, people will now be able to enjoy the province’s new delicacy.
Ginger is a remedy for sore throat, usually used by many Filipinos even before.
DOST-Leyte project is also beefing up the coco vinegar production project for the Bung-aw Women Association in Hilongos, Leyte. DOST-Leyte conducted a technical training to 34 participants composed of members of the association, the Department of Social Welfare and Development and Hilongos local government.(MLC)
