Lapu-Lapu City to Host Independence Day
Tomorrow, June 12, will be the 121st Independence Day of the Philippines and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) sees Lapu-Lapu City a perfect place to celebrate the National Commemoration.
The celebration will be held at the Liberty Shrine in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.
NHCP Chairman of the Board Dr. Rene Escalante said that the celebration is a major event for all Filipinos since it allows us to remember what it took for the Filipinos to be independent.
Escalante explained that if President Rodrigo Duterte can’t attend the celebration, he will still send his cabinet secretary to represent him.
The NHCP is still continuing to rush the preparations in fact they already situated the stage to be used on the celebration.
Different places from all over the country will also observe the 121st Independence Day simultaneously.
Meanwhile, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has not released an official statement yet regarding the proposed P2,000 bill where it features the face of Lapu-Lapu.
Escalante said that the BSP is still reviewing the proposal as of the moment.
Last year, 2018, the 120th Independence Day Celebration was held in Kawit, Cavite where it also featured the 150th birth anniversary of former president Emilio Aguinaldo. (MLC)
