Lapu-Lapu City Tightens Safety Measures
With the whole country placed under the State of Calamity due to COVID-19, the city government of Lapu-Lapu in Cebu switched to protective mode to protect its citizens.
Steady monitoring, advanced screening of domestic arrivals and an early summer vacation for both elementary and high school students were implemented to avoid the spread of the said virus.
The implementation of tightened safety measures was observed mainly because the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) is in Lapu-Lapu City making it the gateway to all other domestic and international places.
Mayor Chan seeks concurrence to the city council to provide cash-for-work to displaced workers affected by the outbreak.
“Nagsugod na man ta’g tabang, ang uban wa pa kadawat,” said Mayor Chan.
The screening of domestic arrivals is expected next week as soon as the thermal scanners are installed. The Bureau of Quarantine on the other hand screens international arrivals.
“The city is ready for that, naa na ang atong mga gamit,” said Mayor Chan.
Mayor Chan also had a meeting with DepEd officials to discuss the possible shortening of school year.
“Instead matapos sila karong Abril atong taposon karong semanaha,” said Mayor Chan.
Meanwhile, hotels and other services now slashed their room rates. The usual P2,000 room is now at P700. (MLC)
