Lapu-Lapu City Prepares For May 13 Polls

The Electoral Board Members (EBM) were gathered in Lapu-Lapu City for the final training for the upcoming May 13 midterm elections.

The said training was headed by the City Election Officer Atty. Reiner Layson.

On May 7, Wednesday, the whole City of Lapu-Lapu was placed under full alert status.

Personnel from Mactan Electric Company (MECO) checked the electrical facility of every school to ensure that no power interruption will occur during the election.

Around 1,100 Electoral Board Members participated in the final training and they were divided into two batches.

Layson said that most of the teachers already had the experience in using the Vote Counting Machines (VCM).

Layson explained that there are 23 extra VCM to be used as back up systems in case problems occur.

Meanwhile, 25 E-jeeps were requested by Layson to transport the equipment and their personnel. Five of these will be deployed to Olango Island.

Layson also reminded every watcher that even if they are given the chance to bring their cellular phones inside the polling precinct, they should not take photos of ballots that have already been marked and also voters filling up the ballots.

Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Chief P/Col. Limuel Obon said that he rounded up and met with all station commanders including also the representatives from the Philippine Air Force and Philippine Navy to discuss security matters.

Meanwhile, MECO Communication Officer Dianne Amodia said that they already checked the transformers to avoid electrical problems. (MLC)
