Landslide Evacuees in Boljoon Get Relief Assistance
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VII has already provided relief assistance both food and non-food items to the 45 families in Barangay Lower Becerril, Boljoon, in southern Cebu on November 4 and November 7, 2017.
These families evacuated their houses after a landslide occurred on October 27, 2017 triggered by heavy rains.
Nearby barangays were also affected following the landslide.
“The regional office of DSWD will continue to monitor and assess the situation in Brgy. Lower Becerril in coordination with the Local Government of Boljoon in preparation for the provision of other appropriate interventions,” said DSWD-7 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre during the press conference held last November 5 in Boljoon.
Director Macapobre was in Boljoon last Sunday to attend a meeting called by Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Dino relative to the landslide incident.
The meeting was attended by different national government agencies like the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPHW), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Boljoon town officials headed by Mayor Merlou Derama.
Also present were Kenneth Cobonpue, co-chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) for Central Visayas of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and Glenn Anthony Soco, chairman of the Infrastructure Development Council of RDC.
Director Macapobre also commended the swift and convergent action of the Municipal Action Team (MAT).
The MAT is composed of DSWD staff from various programs like Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Kalahi-CIDSS and Sustainable Livelihood Program.
The non-food item contains clothing kit, sleeping kit and kitchen kit while the food assistance is placed in a box which has 6 kilos rice, 4 cans sardines, 4 cans corned beef or beef loaf and 6 sachets 3-in-1 coffee.
